“What was the first thing you did when you got there?” “Well we ate lunch and I got a chance to meet coach Dockery my wide receiver and the head coach we sat down and talk about what I how I fit in as a receiver with the team and what I would be doing there during my day to day life as a student athlete.”
“What was the most impressive part about the visit?” Just how big the school is with the football team; everybody works together with one another because I also run track so I was able to meet with the track coaches as well because I’m interested in running track as well in college and they were telling me they work together with football.
“Did you get a chance to see the other parts of the school’s facilities?” Yes I got a chance to see the dorms and the football locker room where I saw my own locker setup as well as I got a chance to see all the gear I would receive being a part of the program it was such a great experience.”
“I know that your serious when it comes to school; how was that experience?” “Yes they also took me on an academic tour and showed me around. I’m interested in sports management and administration so could see the business building and showed me the business side of things. I got a chance to meet with one of the counselors in threw academic department about credit hours and classes.
“Did you get a chance to watch in film on McMurry and what they do from a football standpoint?” Coach Dockery showed me some of their plays and set with four wide receiver set with the spread offense.”
“Coming from Florida do you think you can get adjust to the Texas and its weather?” Yes a little bit, growing up we have moved around and it has helped me a lot that I am very a custom to change. In New York it was super cold, we were in Houston in which it was a little hot, and Florida has a nice sea breeze but it is still hot weather will not be a factor for me.
“I what would you say separate McMurry from some of the other school that looking at you right now?” They really showed how vested they are in me and my athletic career and how there able to work with me playing two sports and not having to worry about the football coaches butt heads with the track coaches. I could see how that could be important with your dad Charlie Ward playing multiple sports in college.
In football I’m looking forward to playing receiver and in track I look to participate in the triple jump and the long jump. My coach sophomore year took me out as a jumper and long jump and I didn’t do too well. I continued to work over the course of a year and went to state my sophomore year.
“Playing both sports is important because I love both. I really like the school colors as well. I met with some of the receivers and the like how coach Dockery treats them like family.
“You have a lot of young people that look up to you; what advice would you give them?”
“It all comes down to grades. If you start putting yourself out there and you have no grades you really are just wasting a lot of time. I’m thankful for my parents and what they have done in my life. I can’t wait to get back home to talk over with my family to see what college I will be attending.
My name is Caleb Ward from Booker T. Washington High School, FL and I just got mixed.
